A husband's food art for his wife on bed rest. I could so see Paul doing this for me. One of the many reasons why I love him-just knowing that he is sentimental and caring-regardless if he actually did anything. Just knowing he is sweet is enough (don't tell him I said that I want to keep doing nice things).
Check out these great photos from parenting.com:
Shirley's "dull" breakfasts were limited to egg whites, wheat bread, peanut butter, and a few fruits and veggies. To liven up Shirley's bland meals, her husband Gat began to create funny faces out of boiled eggs and toast. "After a few days of that," Shirley told us, "they started to become more elaborate scenes."
Have a Great Weekend!
Paul left today to go to Montana for his Grandpa Carl's funeral. My parents are in town so I didn't go. Grandpa Carl taught Paul how to fish (among many other manly things)- that was one of Paul's first comments Paul said after he told me that his grandpa had died because of a stroke. Death is always hard to deal with, but it is nice to know he is heaven with his loving companion and wife. That always helps bring comfort in a difficult time-at least for me.
What are you doing this weekend? I am going to Mt. Vernon with my parents today and then we are going to rent a row bow and paddle around Fountain Head Park.
Enjoy the fabulous Virginia weather. I hear it snowed in my hometown--Utah. Haha. Suckers.

Pumpkin Pie Smoothie
If you like pumpkin pie, then you are going to love this. I found the recipe at the Gardner's Cottage blog
In a blender...
1 c almond milk (I am going to use vanilla soy milk)
1/2 c canned pumpkin
1 heaping teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
2 T raw oatmeal (to thicken, but not necessary)
1 T maple syrup (or to taste)
4 ice cubes
blend and enjoy!
I think this sounds tasty and am going to try it for breakfast.

Painting People
Twenty-four-year-old artist Alexa Meade paints portraits on people. She puts acrylic paint directly on live models, so they appear to be two-dimensional paintings of themselves. These are incredible.
Alexa Meade thinks completely backwards. Most artists use acrylic paints to create portraits of people on canvas. But not Meade - she applies acrylic paints on her subjects and makes them appear to be a part of the painting!
Meade is an installation artist based in the Washington, DC area. Her innovative use of paint on the three dimensional surfaces of found objects, live models, and architectural spaces has been incorporated into a series of installations that create a perceptual shift in how we experience and interpret spatial relationships.
This post is taken from a Cup of Jo Blog where she found them at (My Modern Met). Click HERE for more amazing photos.

Have a Great Weekend
Hey friends. I just wanted to say "Have a Fabulous Weekend." I will be working on a PR/marketing midterm, reading 2 books (sadly school books), and hopefully watching a great movie. If the weather is nice maybe I will go on a bike ride. I really wish I had biking friends out here. I love to ride my bike, I don't regularly do like 20 mile rides, but I do enjoy a good 10 miler and I just haven't found any other ladies who want to come along. So if you live in the DC area and like to ride bikes then let me know.
To get your weekend off right here is a look at Kid Rock's house. I am really impressed by his decor. I actually would love to live in a house like this. Who knew Kid Rock rocked interior design.

For those of you who do not get C Magazine, I thought you deserved to see the latest rock star crib that is way beyond what you might expect to see on MTV's Cribs.
And thank goodness Kid Rock had the savvy to engage the ultra talented Martyn Lawrence-Bullard.

Lawrence-Bullard has an affinity for Indonesian inspired design, and this home reflects this passion. Many of the items are Lawrence-Bullard's own design and available through Lawrence-Bullard Home.

This Just In
Remember my feelings of inadequacy (if not please click HERE to see what I am talking about)? Remember how my goal was to get a smiley face or a gold star on my paper so that I could feel like I was not such a horrid writer?
Well yesterday I received my paper back that I had turned in the week before (I have to turn in a paper each week) and there were comments like " Yes!" and "Nice" and "Much Better Leah!" and at the very bottom of the page, you seriously are not going to believe this, was a red smiley face.
The world is right once again.

These Are Sweet
Neither Paul or I have ever had a dog live to old age. Due to sickness we have lost all of our dogs when they were still quite young. I know Jack and Charlie will live till they are like 18 years old or something fabulous, so I know I will sign them up for these when the time comes.
These soulful Senior Dog Portraits are by photographer Garry Gross. This series shows the grace of old age and the stoic nature of these sweet dogs. Aren't they beautiful?! Click HERE for more images.

Seriously, I have a Cute Family
Here are some great photos that my brother-in-law Aaron Smith took of some of my family at Gardner Village yesterday. I stole this pictures from his blog, Smithpix, and I hope he doesn't mind. He is just such a great photographer that I just can't help myself. Man seeing these photos makes me miss home so much.
I think Joshua is ready for the next Harry Potter movie.
I just love being an Aunt.

Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup
This recipe is absolutely fantastic and my bestest friend Jo, blogged about wanting a good soup recipe. I made this soup for her and her hubby once and I am pretty sure they loved it (maybe they were just being polite). I am not sure if I ever shared the recipe with Jo, so here it is. (sorry it is a bit blurry) I got this recipe from a friend named Bethany when we were in cooking group together. I think everyone will enjoy this soup.
Make this recipe tonight, rent a sexy movie, grab a cozy blanket and have a great weekend making out with someone you love. xoxox
Oh how I love this time of year- except for the fact that it is midterms. That I do not love one bit, but I do love these Halloween decorations.

Leaf-Peeping 2010
1,776 miles driven over 12 states in 4 1/2 days
Here is where we went Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Canada (Montreal and Quebec), Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut.
full photo album
Thurs night:
left around 9:00 pm and drove until 12:00 and slept at a rest stop in New Jersey
Friday:
Headed north through New York State. Saw upstate New York which was absolutely beautiful this time of year. We drove through the Adirondack State Park, through Albany and into Canada.
Drove all around Montreal. Found a Starbucks for free wi-fi and realized that Montreal was not where we thought we were going and actually we were hoping to see Quebec City.
I ordered in French. It was fabulous. We had a jambon and fromage (ham and cheese) crepe and a dulche de leche pear desert crepe. Yummy.
We got back in the car and drove 3 more hours and slept at a beautiful rest stop outside of Quebec City. Man it was cold that night in the car.
Saturday:
Drove into Quebec City. I was giddy like a school girl. I loved it. I loved the language, the people, the food, the architecture, the experience. Words can not do justice to the European quaintness of old town Quebec, but maybe photos can.
Around 2 pm we jumped back into the car to head back to the USA and drove through Maine on a small highway and past a gorgeous lake called Wayman Lake. The leaves were bursting with color.
6 hours later we made it to Portland, Maine where we ate lobster at Jay's Oysters. Neither Paul or I had even had lobster before, so it was quite comical to watch us try to figure out how to shell the thing. I will say that it was amazingly delicious, but Paul and I agree that we will never eat food again where we can still see its body as we are consuming it.
Sunday:
Woke up early to find a shower. We found a YMCA in Portland and they gave us a shower pass for only $3 a person. So off we headed to our respective locker rooms only to find out that the ladies showers were communal. I am not a nudist and felt a little awkward to shower in front of a bunch of ladies, but my pits stunk and my hair was a bit oily so I had to just do it.
We spent most of Sunday in Maine driving down the coast and looking at small towns and saw the famous Portland Headlight as posted about earlier.
We stopped in Kittery, Maine and took the dogs to an amazing park/beach where we let them run off leash. Jack kept drinking the salt water and shortly thereafter realized it didn't sit well in his stomach as diarrhea shot out of his bum. Poor Jack. I had to actually wipe his butt with a towel, it was really awesome. Paul made me do it cause he was gagging.
From Maine we headed into Salem, Massachusetts to see the famous Witch Museum. I must say I was a bit disappointed. I was expecting something more horrific and spooky. Lots of people were dressed up though, but not my favorite part of the trip.
Around dinner time we rolled into Boston. I was told we had to eat Italian food in Northern Boston and googled to find a well recommended restaurant calle Giacomos on Hanover Street. We drove past and it was packed. The line was out the door and the wait was over 2 hours. So I called them up, got the order to go in 15 min flat and we ate in the car. I would highly recommend this restaurant. We got pumpkin sage tortellini with a marscapone sauce and it was definitely enough for 2 all for $14. It was heavenly.
Monday:
Headed to Cape Cod. Found some magical deserted beach and ran the dogs for a while.
Continued to New York to see some friends and got stuck in horrible holiday traffic. Ate dinner in Westchester New York outside of the city and began our return home. We made it as far as New Jersey and slept at another rest stop.
Tuesday:
Drove home and had 6 hours of class that evening.
Wew, I am tired.
Click here for more photos (all 200 of them! Enjoy.)
