Please Come Home For Christmas

http://ny-image1.etsy.com/il_fullxfull.100449321.jpg

So I am battling with the decision about going home to Utah this year for Christmas.  Last year Paul and I spent a lovely Christmas in a cabin secluded in the middle of nowhere West Virginia and loved every bit of it.  No expectations, no places to be, no big gifts or over commercialization.  This year I know our families would really love it if we came home to spend the holidays with them. The problems I am dealing with are these...
1. If we drive home it will take us 3 days just to get there and 3 days to get home, which means only 3 days home. Plus driving will cost like $800.
2. If we fly we have no car when we are home, plus it costs about $650 a ticket, plus we have to deal with the crazy holiday travel rush and annoying people.
3. If we stay here we save money, can work more, and do whatever we want (except go skiing which I really really really want to go do this Christmas break) and but we don't get to be with our family.

So what would you do if you were Paul and I? I am going to take a vote. Should we go home and if so should we fly cause I need to buy the tickets, or should we just stay here and piss off our family?  Please vote and I want a sound argument as to why you think what you do.  If no one votes then I guess I will just be more confused.

Ok here is my logicalness coming out. Stay there and enjoy your time together and make your own traditions. I doesn't make much sense to have to do 6 days of travel for 3 days of family. 1200$ is a lot of money at christmas time. Think of what you could buy with that money. (lots of stuff that you don't need probably) It's not like you will never be home again for Christmas you will be closer next year. i will be there to see you in January anyway.

Ok the mother side of me. I would love to have you home. It not the same with out you there. We are renting a car and we could share the car. I'm willing to do that if you are willing to work it out with me. I would cook your favorite of what ever you would like and baby sit Jack and Charlie so you could go skiing.

Love you both and I can't vote because I can't make a clear and sound unbiassed vote.

Liza has asked me to retract my previous vote and ask that you bring her a friend.

Stay...we are going to Oregon this year for Christmas because we should and it's costing a fortune (and it way closer than you are). But I don't want to stay in UT because then we have to be with hubbies fam and I would rather spend the money to be with mine :) If we didn't live around either family I would vote to stay home, save some money (or pay tuition) and enjoy being together...plus if you stay home I can live vicariously through your rebellion!

We are staying home this year instead of heading out to Utah. We get it. Last year we did the same thing and had a fabulous Christmas. We're looking forward to another one.
Too expensive! Go out in Jan.

Stay but send presents and skype with your fam. Maybe even send a video or do something sweet to let them know you didn't take the decision lightly. I won't be in UT anyway and I think I just secured a business trip to DC so I can see you when I'm out there.
love you
I'll be done with school next on the 16th. Until then I'm in a cave and not taking calls or doing anything but struggling to survive

stay. there are still dozens of christmas's left in your life, and once you have kids, it's harder to deny the grandparents.

we are staying put this year and i am really looking forward to it. establishing our own traditions, santa coming to tess's house and like you said, no rushing around and no obligations.
